By Rubén Morales Iglesias: For a third day in a row the United States National Hurricane Center (US-NHC) said that no new tropical cyclone formation is expected during the next five days.

Over the last few days, the Atlantic Ocean has been free of any weather disturbance. This is a respite after the very active days which saw Hurricane Julia hit Central America with hurricane and tropical storms force winds and then causing flooding which killed over 25 people and displaced people in the thousands. Then Tropical Storm Karl struck the Campeche area of Mexico.

The period from mid-August to mid-October is the peak of the Atlantic hurricane season, but Belize has been hit hard in the late part of October as was the case with 1961 Hurricane Hattie which destroyed Belize City.
