Eleazar Mejia leads Belize to first win in Under-21 Central American Men’s Volleyball Championship

By Rubén Morales Iglesias: Eleazar Mejia scored 23 points to lead Belize to their first win in XIX Under-21 Central American Men’s Volleyball Championship at the Alexis Argüello Polideportivo in Managua, Nicaragua.

Belize won 3-0 (25-20, 25-22, 25-17)

Mejia earned 21 points in attack, 1 block, and 1 ace, according to the Central American Volleyball Federations Association (AFECAVOL).

Preston Smith added nine points, 7 offensive and two blocks, while Hakan Godoy and Ryan Usher totalled six points each.

Belize now moves up to the sixth position with 1 win and four losses totalling five points leaving Honduras in last place with 1 point from four consecutive losses.

Belize rest on Sunday and play their final game on Monday at 6:00 against homestanding Nicaragua.

In the other games today, Guatemala beat Panama 3-0 (25-19, 25-22, 25-12) while Nicaragua close against Costa Rica.

After four games, Guatemala lead with a 5-0 record for 20 points. El Salvador, who rest today, are second with a 2-2 record for 12 points. Prior to playing tonight, Costa Rica and Nicaragua had 2-1 records, but Costa Rica had 12 points to Nicaragua’s nine. Panama are now at 2-2 with 9 points.
