Luis Balona, Elena Smith to South Africa for Commonwealth parliamentary residency on professional development

By Aaron Humes: Member of the House of Representatives from Cayo Central, Luis Balona, and Senator Elena Smith are in Cape Town, South Africa, for a one-week residency in professional development for parliamentarians.

Balona, in his first term, and Smith, in her second, join fellow parliamentarians from Africa, South Asia, and Australia in the Advanced Professional Development and Skills Building Residency hosted by the Commonwealth Parliamentary Association (CPA) and the Provincial Parliament of the Western Cape, South Africa, and their expenses are being paid by the CPA and Cape Town parliament.

They are there to learn skills useful to build leadership and strategic thinking, communication, and team management not only for parliament but in other areas. Delegates will be mentored by current serving members of the Western Cape and KwaZulu-Natal Provincial parliaments and that of Alberta, Canada.

The two return home next Monday.
