BREAKING: Hurricane Lisa to bring impact by midday; first bands to approach coast in two hours

Posted: Wednesday, November 2, 2022. 8:51 am CST.

By Aaron Humes: The National Meteorological Service’s Chief Meteorologist Ronald Gordon says there is good and bad news for Belize ahead of the arrival of Hurricane Lisa.

As of 6 a.m., the center of Lisa was located 100 miles east-south-east of Belize City, moving west at 15 miles per hour.

In Gordon’s judgment, Lisa will not slow down before making landfall and the system has just begun showing up on national radar east of the Turneffe Atoll, with the first outer bands hitting Half Moon Caye. By his judgment, landfall time will increase significantly to early to mid-afternoon, with first tropical storm-force winds approaching in the next few hours, followed by hurricane-force winds between noon and three p.m.

Other impacts will include flooding from heavy rainfall and a storm surge of four to seven feet resulting in threats to life and property.
