By Aaron Humes: Police confirmed today that they are treating the death of Celia Florian sometime between October 31 and November 4 as murder – and one of their own is in the crosshairs.

Superintendent Gerald Jones, deputy head of the National Crimes Investigation Branch (NCIB), told the press today that “our investigation is showing some leads in terms of investigation of a police officer being involved in this investigation,” adding that he was unable to share anything further as the investigation is ongoing.

Florian, a waitress of Belmopan, died of asphyxia due to strangulation due to blunt force trauma to the head, per the results of the post-mortem examination conducted on Thursday.

Florian’s body was found near Mile 40 on the Hummingbird Highway on the afternoon of November 4 after she had disappeared between October 31 and November 2 when she was formally reported missing.
