Ministry of Agriculture conducts soursop trainer of trainers workshop in Orange Walk

By Rubén Morales Iglesias: The Ministry of Agriculture, Food Security, and Enterprise (MAFSE) conducted a soursop trainer of trainers workshop in Orange Walk on Friday.

“Following recent workshops conducted by Brazilian expert Dr. Abel Reboucas on soursop cultivation and maintenance, Orange Walk personnel are doing training of trainers with fellow extension officers and interested farmers,” MAFSE said in a social media post.

In early October, Reboucas, a Brazilian agronomist who holds a doctorate degree on Tropical Fruits from the University of Sao Paulo, Brazil, gave workshops at Central Farm, Lemonal and Yo Creek reaching 115 farmers. That number could have been higher, but his final workshop for farmers from the Srann Creek and Toledo Districts on October 10 had to be called off because of inclement weather caused by Tropical Storm Julia. Prior to the farmers’ workshops, Reboucas conducted a training of trainers workshop for technicians in the Ministry of Agriculture and partner organizations.

One of these officers, Extension Officer Carlos Tzul, conducted the workshop in Orange Walk on Friday.

The Ministry of Agriculture thanked Manolo Hernandez for allowing the officers to use the plants on his farm for the training.
