U.S. Embassy Belize joins in Garifuna Settlement Day festivities in Dangriga

By Zoila Palma Gonzalez: Hundreds of Belizeans flocked to the culture capital, Dangriga today to celebrate Garifuna Settlement Day.

The celebration marks the arrival and settlement of this proud group of people to Belize’s shores in 1832.

The theme for this year’s celebration is “Bun, Amürü Nu Hagabüribei Garinagu; Awanserameme Wamá Lau.”

I for you, You for me is the Garifuna Way: Let us Continue to Move Forward.

The United States Embassy in Belize joined in the cultural festivities from the Yurumein to the official cultural ceremonies featuring cultural drumming, singing, and dancing.

“The U.S. Embassy is honored to share in the cultural and spiritual traditions of our Garifuna friends,” the U.S. Embassy said.
