Final day for business owners to make a pitch for an award at the upcoming EntreCon

By Benjamin Flowers: Today marks the deadline for owners of micro small and medium-sized enterprises(MSMEs) to submit their pitch to win an award at the upcoming Belize Entrepreneurship Conference (EntreCon).

EntreCon, now on its sixth year, is the premier entrepreneurship conference in Belize, is hosted by the Office of the Prime Minister (OPM) and the Belize Trade and Investment Development Service (BELTRAIDE) and being celebrated this year under the theme “Empowering MSMEs in the disruptive Era”.

Nikki Augustine, Marketing and Communications Manager at BELTRAIDE, explained that this year marks the first EntreCon awards ceremony with five awards being given out.

Those awards are: The Great Blue Entrepreneur of the Year, given to a business within the Blue Economy striving to help with the impact of climate change and its effects on marine ecosystems; The Sustainable Entrepreneur of the Year Award, given to businesses within the Green Economy striving to protect and preserve Belize’s environment; The Creative Entrepreneur Award, for those in the Orange Economy, which focuses on performing arts, music, cultural heritage, anything regarding intellectual property; The Youth Entrepreneur of the Year Award, to honor youths who have taken the bold step into entrepreneurship; and the Disruptor of the Year Award.

“We want to show that disruption can be positive. This award looks at those who have been making waves; who, even during the COVID pandemic, came up with ideas that have helped businesses transition during that time,” Augustine said.

Entrepreneurs who want a chance to win one of the five awards being given at the event must submit a two-minute video pitch to Beltraide here, explaining why they should win the award.

EntreCon is being held at the Belize Civic Center on November 25 from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. with a cocktail for entrepreneurs planned immediately after from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. The conference marks the official end of the National MSME Roadshow hosted by the OPM and BELTRAIDE which visited 10 stops throughout the country between the months of August-October.
