Man fined for smoking marijuana in public

By Breaking Belize News Staff: A Belize City man was fined in court this week for smoking marijuana in public.

Twenty-nine-year-old Ralph Moody appeared in the Belize City Magistrate’s Court on Monday, charged with a single count of smoking cannabis.

Moody wasted no time in pleading guilty to the charge with an explanation, saying that he hadn’t smoked the marijuana in front of anyone, he had just left his yard to go to the shop.

He was fined $300 plus $5 cost of court which he has until February 21, 2023 to pay or he will spend two months in jail for default.

His offence usually carries a $100 fine, but Moody has a previous conviction for drug possession, which the court took into consideration.
