Police taking measures to prevent retaliation following Belize City double murder

Posted: Monday, December 5, 2022. 5:55 pm CST.

By Breaking Belize News Staff: The Belize Police Department is making special provisions to deter retaliatory violence following a double murder in Belize City yesterday.

Head of Communications for the Office of the Commissioner of Police, Assistant Superintendent Fitzroy Yearwood, said that around midday on Sunday, December 4, 26-year-old Cleon Smith Jr. and 32-year-old Kendale “Snakey” Ramirez were on Electric Avenue when they came under a hail of gunfire.

Yearwood said that police began preparing for retaliation immediately after the incident.

“We have officers that have been tasked with certain assignments. While this is not believed to be of a gang nature, we cannot rule out that people are related to Mr. Smith and would definitely want to seek revenge,” Yearwood said.

Smith, a resident of Placencia Village was arrested in April for gang affiliation as a part of the police department’s nationwide crackdown on gang violence.

Police have designated two people as prime suspects for the crime, and those people are being questioned by the Crimes Investigation Branch (CIB).
