By Zoila Palma Gonzalez: Today, Britain’s health regulator announced that it authorized a COVID-19 vaccine for infants as young as 6 months, Reuters report.
This would allow for infants to also be protected against COVID-19 as soon as the UK’s Joint Committee on Vaccination and Immunization (JCVI) agrees.
Britain’s Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency (MHRA) authorized the vaccine – made by Pfizer and BioNTech for children 6 months to 4 years old.
The vaccine was found to be effective on an ongoing clinical trial involving 4,526 participants.
The jab is a lower dose of the vaccine used for children aged 5 to 11 years and would be given as 3 shots in the upper arm.
The first 2 doses would be given 3 weeks apart followed by a third dose administered at least two months after the second dose.
