By Breaking Belize News Staff: A Cayo youth was spared having to go to trial over stolen money by paying back what she stole.

Eighteen-year-old Yohanna Cervantes was charged in the Belize City Magistrate’s Court with obtaining property by deception, in relation to $800 fraudulently obtained from Joey Cano.

Just before the trial was to begin the prosecution informed the court that Cano wanted no further court action, as he had been repaid.

In July, Cano told police that he made the deposit to an Atlantic Bank account in the name of Janelle Mariza Castellanos as partial payment for a cellphone he wished to buy but never received.

Police apprehended Castellanos and during questioning, she confessed that she allowed her friend, Yohanna Cervantes to provide her account and ID information to receive the $800 deposit, and that she gave the money to Cervantes.
