By Rubén Morales Iglesias: Today’s the day that Lionel Messi leads Argentina against Kylian Mbappe and France at 9:00 am at the 90,000-seater Lusail Stadium in Al Daayen, Qatar in the battle to capture the 2022 FIFA World Cup for a third third.

The two coaches, Lionel Scaloni for La Albiceleste and Didier Deschamps for Les Bleus, have said it’s not a battle between Messi and Mbappé, that it’s Argentina against France. And while that is true, that it’s two teams against each other, the world’s eyes are on those two players as they are the main representatives of their countries and the sport at this moment.

Millions of people around the world, including some French people, as Deschamps’ admitted, want to see Messi, considered by many the best player in the world, lift the World Cup as the crowning moment of his illustrious career which has seen him win practically everything but the World Cup.

In the case of France, even though Antoine Griezmann is the man who runs the show, Mbappé is the center of attraction. After all he is considered the most prominent young football player in the world and is seen as the successor to players like Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo, who have, up to now, been the most followed football stars worldwide.

The fact that the two are now teammates at Paris Saint Germain and that, according to the international media, they don’t see eye to eye, makes today’s rivalry even bigger.

Official adidas Messi number 10 shirts sold out worldwide. That says a lot about who the world is rooting for today. And while Messi is by far the most acclaimed of the two, Mbappe already lifted the World Cup four years ago in Russia.

But, the two coaches insist, it’s not Messi and Mbappé alone. They are surrounded by players who can also change a game at any moment.

And it’s true. While Messi and Mbappé are also vying for the Golden Boot with five goals apiece, their generals, Olivier Giroud and Julián Álvarez are right behind with four each.

Thing is. We’re in for a very spectacular, high tension, nerves-on-the-edge football match.

Argentina against France. Whoever win, will be triple champions.
