International News: Mexico sends military to Ciudad Juarez following deadly prison break

By Zoila Palma Gonzalez: A manhunt continues for escapees that fled a prison in Ciudad Juarez following a shootout on Sunday, Reuters report.

Mexican officials have sent 200 military personnel to the U.S. border city of Ciudad Juarez.

According to reports, the director of the prison has since been fired.

In addition, Prosecutors say that the director and others are also being investigated for a possible role in the jailbreak.

The shootout claimed 19 lives including guards and inmates.

Among the escapees is cartel kingpin Ernesto Alfredo Pinon de la Cruz, also known as “El Neto.”

Federal authorities found a ‘VIP zone’ inside the prison with drugs and cash.

The prison break marks one of the highest death tolls from prison violence in Mexico in recent history.
