Team PACT wins 13th Annual Boom to Manatee Canoe Race, the first race of 2023

By Rubén Morales Iglesias: Team PACT won the 13th Annual Boom to Manatee Canoe Race, the first race of 2023, organized by the Belize Canoe Association, in one hour, 24 minutes, and 52 seconds (1:24:52), three seconds ahead of Guava Limb (1:24:55), on Sunday.

Team PACT, representing the Protected Areas Conservation Trust, comprised Amado Cruz, Daniel Cruz, and Jerry Cante.

PACT, overall and Men’s Category winners, edged Family Adventure Category winners Guava Limb by three seconds. Guava Limb consists of Andres Cabb, Danny Cruz Jr, and Javier Guardado.

Third place was grabbed by Koop Sheet Metal in 1:25:41. Fourth place was taken by WatEVa Boyz in 1:27:01, fifth by Westrac/UES in 1:27:06, sixth by Belize Coast Guard in 1:31:19, seventh by the Bullet Tree Falls One Care Pharmacy in 1:33:53, eighth by The Hive in 1:33:58, ninth by Hells’ Bells in 1:35:48, and tenth by San Iggy in 1:36:41.

The One Care Pharmacy (Gustavo Pott, Avis Guydis, and Jermaine Sanchez) were first in the Mixed Category followed by San Iggy, comprising Ana Lopez, Gustavo Pott, and Rodolfo Moreno).

The Hive were the only Junior entry.

The Belize Coast Guardians were the only Women’s team entry. They finished 13th in 1:40:50.

The BATSUB Turtle Express (1:42:43) finished 15th, winning the C2 Category. They were followed by Grumpy’s which included the oldest paddler in 64-year-old Jerry Wilkens.

Hells’ Bells won the Masters Category followed by the Consejo Misfits, who were 11th finishing in 1:37:33.

In the Family Adventure Category, Guava Limb were followed by Canoe Belize It (17th – 1:46:40) and Sea Sports ‘Watta Ting’ (18th – 1:47:07). Watta Ting was made up of Mike and John Searle along with the youngest paddler, 11-year-old Thomas Searle.

Galen University won the Students Category (Intramural). The MT Cutters were second.
