Albert Davis wins 3rd annual George Price Day 15K Classic in Belize City in record time

By Rubén Morales Iglesias: Albert Davis set a new record in winning the third annual George Price Day 15K Classic, organized by the Freetown Reserves Promotions, in 47 minutes and 4 seconds (47:04) on Sunday, January 15.

Davis broke Amir Ramos’ 2022 record of 54:35 for the 15-kilometer race (9.4 miles) by seven minutes and 31 seconds (7:31) on a cool Sunday morning.

The race started at 6:00 am at Mile 8 on the George Price Highway and finished at the Freetown Reserve on Freetown Road across from Atlantic Bank. The runners came into Belize City through the Lord Ridge Cemetery, turned left onto Central American Lake Independence Boulevard, over the Belcan Bridge, and right to Freetown Road to the finish line.

Stone Mariano ran in second in 53:37.81.

2022 winner Amir Ramos, who was unsure if he was going to compete because of a knee injury that had sidelined him for three months, finished in 3rd position in 53:55:71.

Fred Usher, who was second last year and is nursing a knee injury, took fourth in 57:18:75.

Fifth place was taken by Edwin Garnett who clocked 57:25:94. Gary Lee ran in sixth in 59:38:00. Tyrone Harris was seventh timed at 1:00:15. Giovanni Baizar finished eighth in 1:01:08 while Marvin Hope (1:02:55) was ninth, and Stanislaus O’Neil rounded off the top 10 in 1:04:38.

Davis was the Elite Category winner followed by Ramos and Usher.

Mariano was the Senior Category. Yong Fei Xu was second clocking 1:13:55 and Aldo Salazar was third in 1:13:56.

Melissa Heredia won the Women’s Category in 1:31:14. Ariana Adolphus was second in 1:38:44.

Marvin Hope won the Masters Category in 1:02:55. David Castillo (1:06:10) was second while Clinton Magdaleno (1:24:20) was third.

Kyle Ayuso topped the Junior Category in 1:17:04 followed by Austin Usher in 1:29:50.

All those runners who finished the race received medals. The top finishers received cash prizes as well.

The Freetown Reserves Promotion is a non-profit organization whose focus is youth, sports, and education.
