House fire reported on Magazine Road

By Aaron Humes: Information has been received of a house fire on Magazine Road in Belize City this morning.

The affected house is located not far from the Belize Electricity Limited station in the same area.

According to Police, a 20 feet by 15 feet wooden structure building was engulfed with flames and being extinguished by Fire Service personnel, however the house had already been destroyed by the fire.

Initial investigation revealed that a sixteen year old minor was at his residence washing when he decided to prepare something to eat. He lit the stove and went outside to continue washing. About 2 minutes later, he noticed smoke coming from inside and found the kitchen area aflame.

The estimated value for the house and items lost are $20,000. No one else was in the house and the preliminary determination is an accident related to the stove. However investigations continue.
