Forecasters track “rare” January disturbance in Atlantic

Posted: Tuesday, January 17, 2023. 12:58 pm CST.

By Zoila Palma Gonzalez: Forecasters at the National Hurricane Center (NHC) are monitoring a “rare” disturbance in the Atlantic.

According to the NHC, a non-tropical low pressure system centered over the northwestern Atlantic Ocean is producing storm-force winds.

The system is located about 300 miles north of Bermuda.

The disturbance is producing some thunderstorm activity near the center but it is embedded in a cold air mass with nearby frontal boundaries.

Forecasters say that as the system moves over colder water and across Atlantic Canada, it is unlikely to develop further.
