By Breaking Belize News Staff: A Crooked Tree man charged with burglarizing a salon, is behind bars at the Belize Central Prison after tricking police into letting him go when he was first detained.

Twenty-four-year-old Delyn Jones, appeared in the Belize City Magistrate’s Court on Thursday, charged with a single count of burglary, in connection with $8,500 worth of jewelry stolen from inside the salon located in King’s Park, Belize City, to which he pleaded not guilty.

The prosecution objected heavily to bail on a number of grounds, primarily that Jones is a flight risk. The prosecution explained that Jones had convinced the officers who initially detained him for burglary that he was someone else so they let him go and it took 12 days for police to apprehend him again.

The prosecution further objected because Jones has another matter before the courts but has not been showing up for his court dates. After considering the objections, the magistrate denied Jones bail and remanded him to prison until March 13.

The alleged burglary took place on January 6 and Jones was detained the same day, but after his creative escape, he remained at large until January 18.
