Gang members make peace in court; Drop charges against each other

By Breaking Belize News Staff: Two gang members made peace in the Belize City Magistrate’s Court this week, after they both dropped the charges against each other.

The men, Esmor Garrido, a convicted member of the Rocky Road Bloods gang, and Hilberto Ruiz, who was recently charged for being a member of the MS13 gang, appeared in court on Thursday, in relation to an incident where they had stabbed each other. Both men had filed charges of aggravated assault, but in court, both informed the magistrate that they did not wish to pursue the matter any further.

Ruiz had taken the stand, explaining that they had spoken to each other and decided on peaceful terms for the sake of their families. Garrido also took the stand and said that it was the police that pressured them to give statements that landed the matter in court.

With that, both men were free to leave.

The matter reportedly stemmed from an incident two weeks ago where Ruiz’s vehicle was damaged and he blamed Garrido for it.
