By Aaron Humes: A Ladyville man is the first of three suspects charged with the robbery and attempted murder of Deepak Rupuchand Katariya, set upon on Saturday morning, January 28, not far from the centre of downtown Belize City.

22-year-old Robert Lamb is accused of the attempted murder of Katariya, use of deadly means of harm, dangerous harm, and robbery.

Lamb was denied bail due to the nature of the offences and no plea was taken. He was remanded to the Belize Central Prison until his next court date on March 31.

Katariya, 34, had just left Sky Shop at the corner of Cemetery Road and Euphrates Avenue where he was doing business and was walking over to his parked vehicle on the other side of the street when two dark-skinned slim-built men approached in camouflage clothing and caps. One of them held him in a choke around the neck while the other stabbed him several times in the body and stole his black containing electronic items.

The robbers headed for a white Chevrolet Equinox parked on Mosul Street, but police intercepted them and chased down a man, later identified as Lamb, who was seen running behind the old Novelos/Batty’s Bus terminal as the vehicle sped down toward Vernon Street. The knife alleged to have been used was also recovered in the area. Police continue to look for the second suspect who is known to them.
