International News: China says U.S. overreacted after shooting down its balloon

By Zoila Palma Gonzalez: Officials in China say that the United States overreacted after it shot down an unmanned Chinese airship over U.S. airspace, Reuters report.

Spokesperson for China’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Tan Kefei said that China reserves the right to use the necessary means to deal with similar situations.

On Saturday, U.S. military shot down the suspected Chinese spy balloon near South Carolina, a week after it first entered U.S. airspace.

Meanwhile, China has condemned the shooting down of the airship saying that it was used for meteorological and other scientific purposes, and had strayed into U.S. airspace “completely accidentally”.

U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken also postponed a visit to China this week.
