Coach David Pérez recalls 16 players to Belize Men’s National Team training; calls 7 new players

By Rubén Morales Iglesias: Coach David Pérez is looking at players to put together the Belize Men’s National Team that will play Belize’s final two games in the Concacaf Nations League. Pérez recalled 16 players from the first group he called for the January 30-31 and February 6-7 training sessions. He called seven new players to the third training session which comes up on February 13 and 14.

The new players called are defenders Jahron Myvette from Verdes, Richard Gillett from Orange Walk’s First Division Champions Caribbean Rum Boyz, Progresso FC captain Enrique ‘Chicle’ Castillo, and Brandon Jones from the San Pedro Pirates.

The new midfielders to be looked at are Alwyn Zelaya from the Caribbean Rum Boyz, Moises Hernandez of the San Pedro Pirates, and Port Layola’s Latrelle Middleton.

The 16 players recalled are two of the three goalkeepers from the first set: Progresso’s Charles Tillett and Port Layola’s Kenroy Tillett.

The recalled defenders are James Mejia and Kyle Flowers from Altitude along with Everal Trapp and Allence Ayala from Verdes,

The midfielders returning are Verdes’ Darrel Myvette, Jordy Polanco, and Eldon Reneau, Bandits’ Denmark Casey, Benque Viejo United’s Carlton Thomas and Nahjib Guerra, and Pirates’ Andir Chi.

The three forwards remain the same: Pirates’ Horace Avila, Port’s Michael Palacio, and Verdes’ Trimayne Harris.

The players not recalled for this session are Progresso goalkeeper Luisito Cunil and defender Donell Arzu. Others not recalled are Collin Westby from Altitude, Darren Miss from Benque Viejo United, and Kleron Cacho from Wagiya. The midfielders not returning are Izon Gill and Zion Ramos from Verdes.

Monday’s and Tuesday’s training sessions are the third of eight cycles that Perez and his staff are conducting to prepare for the Concacaf Nations League B games against Guatemala at the FFB Stadium on Friday, March 24 and against the Dominican Republic on Monday, March 27 at the Félix Sánchez Olympic Stadium in Santo Domingo.

After four games played in Group D, Belize only have one point from a draw, and three losses. French Guiana lead with ten points and are followed by Guatemala with seven and the Dominican Republic with four.

The BMNT is expected at the FFB headquarters on Monday at 1:00 pm.

Again, Verdes lead the call up with seven players out of the 23. The San Pedro Pirates follow with four; Port Layola with three; Progresso, Altitude, Benque Viejo United, and  Caribbean Rum Boyz with two each; and Bandits with one. Caribbean Rum Boyz are the only non-Premier League of Belize team being asked to provide players for the tryouts so far.

20th – 23rd March 2023
