Police: Teenager Logan Pratt died from injuries in boat collision

By Aaron Humes: According to Police, investigators along with the Port Authority are working on the case against a boat captain whose vessel struck and killed 17-year-old Logan Ceylon Pratt of Bartlesville, Oklahoma, U.S.A. on Tuesday.

On Friday, police released details of a post-mortem examination conducted by noted coroner Dr Mario Estradabran on Pratt’s body. He determined the cause of death to be hypovolemic shock due to external injuries due to multiple sharp injuries, propeller type. In other words, Pratt rapidly lost blood after being struck by the boat propellers while swimming in the sea, and her heart lost the ability to circulate blood around the body, causing other organs to rapidly stop working.

Police continue to build a case against captain of the ‘Mathew’ Jesse Smith, but according to the San Pedro Sun, a small group of his supporters briefly protested outside the town police station on Wednesday, saying the accident was not his fault. They claim the area where the accident took place, off the Mata Chica Resort five miles north of downtown San Pedro, is an active boat lane and when the sea is choppy as it was for much of this week, it is sometimes difficult to see anyone in the water.

Police have not indicated whether Pratt and her mother Tamra Lee took any precautions before the fatal swim, or how they ended up in the area as they were staying further south. Smith was returning from a tour of the Mexico Rocks area and apparently struck both women at around 2:15, stopping when he heard screams from behind him.

The body of Logan Pratt was immediately transported to Ambergris Hope Clinic in San Pedro, where the doctor pronounced the teenager dead at 3 p.m. Police detained Smith, and a urine sample was obtained.

The Sun says Smith’s family has hired an attorney to fight his case. They hope the investigation vindicates him from any liability. At the same time, they offer their condolences to the Pratt family.
