International News: U.S. President Joe Biden: “Strong and United” supporting Ukraine

By Zoila Palma Gonzalez: Today, U.S. President Joe Biden said that democracies across the globe faced a question in February 2022, when Russia invaded Ukraine.

“When Russia invaded – it wasn’t just Ukraine being tested. Democracies across the globe faced a question.

 Would we respond? Or look the other way?

 One year later, we know the answer. We would respond – strong and united,” Biden stated.

During a “Views from Ukraine” panel this morning, Orysia Lutsevych, Head of the Ukraine Forum and Research Fellow in the Russia and Eurasia Programme at Chatham House noted that there is a coalition of 50 countries supporting Ukraine with supplies.

Orysia also noted that the U.S. support to Ukraine has also strengthened the NATO alliance in coordinating assistance to Ukraine and in triggering that other countries now want to join the NATO alliance.

Orysia says that because Russia is encroaching on Ukraine’s sovereignty, other countries that had been observing now have a position and want to be a part of NATO.

In addition, there is stronger cooperation of democracies and Western unity on security and the need to invest in security to safeguard peace.
