Dr. Vincent Palacio officially sworn in as President of the University of Belize

By Hugh O’Brien: President of the University of Belize, Dr. Vincent Palacio, was officially sworn in by the Governor General of Belize, Her Excellency Dame Froyla Tzalam during a brief ceremony held on Wednesday, March 1, 2023 at the Governor General’s House in Belmopan.

Following the departure of former President Professor Emeritus Clement Sankat at the end of July, Dr. Vincent Palacio took on the role of Interim President. One year after ie. on August 1, 2022, he was appointed President of the national university.

Dr. Palacio holds a doctoral degree from Indiana State University and has been at UB for many years serving in capacities such as Assistant Professor, and later as the Dean of the Faculty of Management and Social Science, which he has held since 2005.

Dr. Palacio is also credited as a contributing author on several publications including the Handbook on the Economics of Ecosystem Services and Biodiversity, Belize Tourism Board’s National Tour Guide Trainers Manual (2007), and the Belize Code of Practice for Water Sports Activities (2019).

In a release sent out UB is honored to be under the leadership of President Palacio.
