By Zoila Palma Gonzalez: Today, the Taiwan Embassy announced the launch of the “Culture of Peace Program: Women´s Economic Empowerment in the Adjacency Zone of Belize.”

The project is funded by TaiwanICDF, under the program titled “Enhancing the Economic Empowerment of Women in Belize in the COVID-19 Post-Pandemic Era”, in cooperation between the governments of Belize and Taiwan.

An OAS Special Representative for Belize and Guatemala Affairs was also at the event.

This is also one of the many projects that are co-implemented by the Taiwan Technical Mission in Belize and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Foreign Trade and Immigration of Belize.

The training will be held in Ta’Amay Centre for Training and Promotion of Peace, which offers open and free labor, language, and technical training to assist the communities and people living in the Adjacency Zone.

A total of 14 different vocational skills and technical trainings will be provided to 150 to 170 women in the Adjacency Zone, focusing on the areas such as beauty, bakery and cooking, hospitality business, foreign languages, customer service, bartending, and administrative management for micro and small business.

The 4-month training program will run from March to June of 2023, aiming to further support women’s personal development and growth, enchance their resilience, and equip them with life skills to cope with a changing world, especially in the post-COVID-19 context.

In attendance at the event was Taiwan Ambassador Lily Li-Wen Hsu, CEO in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Amalia Mai, Ambassador Dr. Agustin Espinosa, Special Representative of the Secretary General for Belize-Guatemala Affairs of OAS, Robert Pan, Chief of the Taiwan Technical Mission in Belize, as well as officials from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Belize, OAS and local participants.

The Taiwan Embassy says that it will continue working with the Government of Belize and other partners to extend its staunch support for Belize and its people through further bilateral cooperation.
