Chris Rock delivers rebuttal in powerful stand-up special performance on Netflix after being smacked on stage by Will Smith

By Breaking Belize News Staff: A year after being smacked on the Academy Awards stage by Will Smith, Chris Rock finally gave his rebuttal in a powerful stand-up special that was streamed live on Netflix. “Chris Rock: Selective Outrage,” which was held at the Hippodrome Theatre in Baltimore, was the comedian’s first stand-up performance since last year’s Oscars and marked Netflix’s first foray into live streaming.

Performing in all white and with a Prince medallion around his neck, Rock immediately touched on last year’s Oscars while riffing on “wokeness,” hypersensitivity, and what he referred to as “selective outrage.” He then went on to address a variety of contemporary issues, including virtue signaling, high-priced yoga pants, the Duchess of Sussex, the Kardashians, abortion rights, the Capitol riot, and what he called America’s biggest addiction: Attention.

Rock closed the special with a series of jokes about the notorious Academy Awards incident, making clear that he was not going to be a victim. He suggested that he was caught in the crossfire in Smith’s relationship with his wife, Jada Pinkett Smith, and that he loved Will Smith.

Before dropping his microphone and holding his arms up triumphantly, Rock left the crowd with one last zinger, saying that his parents taught him not to fight in front of white people. The special was surrounded by star-studded live programming, including pre- and post-show events hosted by comedian Ronny Chieng, Dana Carvey, and David Spade, with pre-taped messages from Paul McCartney, Tracy Morgan, Adam Sandler, Jerry Seinfeld, and Wanda Sykes.

“Selective Outrage” is Rock’s second special for Netflix, following 2018’s “Tamborine,” and is part of a two-special $40 million deal he signed with the streaming giant in 2016.
