“PUP will discuss kicking PG Town Councilor Moses Cal out of the party after wounding charge,” says Prime Minister John Briceño

By Benjamin Flowers: Prime Minister and People’s United Party (PUP) Leader John Briceño says that the PUP will have to consider whether or not Punta Gorda Town Councilor Moses Cal will remain a party member, after Cal was charged for domestic violence.

Cal was arrested and charged for wounding on Monday, after the victim reported to police that he punched her several times to the face and to the side of her head, causing an injury to her ear. Her injuries were later certified by a medical officer and classified as wounding.

Speaking to the media on Wednesday, Briceño said that his party acted swiftly to condemn Cal’s actions when they learned of the situation and called for his resignation from the council.

“Our party was very clear and we answered very quickly especially in Women’s month that we have zero tolerance for violence against women and that’s what we are asking to, he should resign as a member of the Toledo Town Council, we can’t force him, but certainly we can do something from our part within the party,” Briceño said.

When asked if Cal would be kicked out of the party Briceño responded by saying, “Well, that’s another matter that we will definitely discuss, but as I said, we have zero policy when it comes to the issue of violence against women.”

The PUP has reportedly already sent a letter to Cal calling for his resignation and is awaiting a response.
