Belize’s Ambassador to Taiwan, Dr. Candice Pitts gifts Mayan table runner to Taiwan’s president

By Zoila Palma Gonzalez: On March 9, 2023, Belize’s Ambassador to Taiwan, Dr. Candice Pitts joined the Dean of the Diplomatic Corps and the Representative of Australian office as they hosted Taiwan’s President Tsai Ing-wen at their third annual International Women’s Day forum.

At the forum, Ambassador Pitts featured a display for all attendees to see sculptures that celebrated womanhood that were created by Belizean sculptors.

As the main gift, Ambassador Pitts presented to President Tsai, on behalf of all the women present, a Mayan table runner that was created by Martina Pop, a Q’epchi Mayan woman of southern Belize.

The Embassy of Belize says that it continues to facilitate the exposure and promotion of Belizean artists and Belizean culture in Taiwan.
