First ever Agricultural Day in San Antonio, Cayo; a huge success!

By Zoila Palma Gonzalez: On March 16, 2023, the San Antonio Village Council hosted the first ever Agricultural Day/ Farmers Day.

“We had the privilege to display and sell our products. It was an exchange for market, all the farmers were amazed because everything was sold,” Chairman Aron Tzib said.

Tzib says that the farmers were united and came out to support and display their produce.

The farmers cooperatives and women cooperatives and small businesses also participated.

“The farmers displayed vegetables like watermelon, cantaloupe, cabbages, tomatoes, radish, lettuce,” Tzib added.

Tzib thanked Minister of Agriculture, Food Security and Enterprise, Jose Mai and Area Representative, Alex Balona for their support.

Cooperatives participating included Maya green growers, Sayab farmers, Oxmul farmers, Sayab women’s group, Mayan Yucatec women’s group and San Antonio women’s group.

Tzib also thanked all visitors that supported farmers for the village’s first ever farmers day.
