Belize Government congratulates Demetrie Meyers on impressive CARIFTA Gold Medal wins

By Aaron Humes: The Belize government has officially congratulated Demetrie Meyers, 14, on his impressive achievement of winning two gold medals at the 50th CARIFTA Games in Nassau, Bahamas over the Easter weekend.

Meyers triumphed in the Boys’ Under-17 races at 1,500 meters and 3,000 meters, although he narrowly missed out on breaking the CARIFTA Games record in the former due to hamstring issues.

Meyers is currently in Belize to compete in the National Track and Field Championships at the Marion Jones Stadium in Belize City.

Upon his arrival at the airport on Friday, Meyers was greeted by Minister of Sports Rodwell Ferguson and representatives from the Belize Tourism Board and National Sports Council. He was then escorted in a motorcade to the stadium, where he received a $3,000 prize and a plot of land.

Meyers stated that he and other Belizean athletes have much more to offer and is determined to qualify for the Olympics in his discipline.
