Orange Walk Running Rebels nip San Pedro Tiger Sharks 82-80 in Belize Elite Basketball League

By Rubén Morales Iglesias: The Orange Walk Running Rebels slipped past the San Pedro Tiger Sharks by a basket 82-80 at San Pedro on Saturday night in the only game played in the BEBL. The Punta Gorda Panthers reportedly forfeited against the Griga Dream Ballers.

The Running Rebels were the second team to win by a basket on the weekend as the Cayo Western Ballaz beat the Belmopan Red Tigers 71 to 69 the night before in Cayo.

Bryan Hudson led the Orange One Running Rebels with 24 points. He picked up four rebounds, made an assist and two steals to go with it. Matthew Young scored 13 points, pulled nine rebounds and had one steal, one assist, and one block to complement. James Stanback totalled 12 points, three rebounds, two assists, and one steal. Tyrone Hall added ten points, two rebounds, one assist, two steals, and one block.

The game’s top scorer was Kyle Steward of the San Pedro Tiger Sharks. Steward amassed 31 points for the night with seven rebounds, one assist, two steals, and a block. Jamaal Clifton scored 14 points, snatched 3 rebounds for San Pedro. Jihad Wright scored 13 points, pulled five rebounds, and made one assist and five steals.

The Orange Walk Running Rebels are now 8-4 while the Tiger Sharks dropped to 5-5.

On Friday, the Hurricanes beat the Defenders 73-65 and, as mentioned above, the Western Ballaz edged the Belmopan Red Taigaz 71-69.
