By Breaking Belize News Staff: Residents in the Mayflower Street community within Belize City have a new basketball rim through a collaboration with the Ministry of Home Affairs and New Growth Industries and the Belize Police Department.
The rim, which opens opportunities for adults and youths to engage in positive sporting activities was installed on Friday.
Deputy Commissioner of Police Dr. Richard Rosado, Dr. Lorna Mckay with the Leadership Intervention Unit, and Barry Nowlin, with the National Sports Council, were on-site to meet with community members at the assembly of the new rim.
The gesture forms a part of a greater push by authorities to utilize sports as a means of addressing crime by offering non-violent outlets for adults and youths in communities that are stricken by crime.
