International News: Over 9 million acres of forest burn in Canada

Posted: Thursday, June 8, 2023. 9:25 am CST.

By Zoila Palma Gonzalez: Canadian firefighters are struggling to battle over 400 wildfires around the country.

Canada is experiencing the worst-ever wildfire season with forced evacuations of thousands of people.

In addition, the wildfire haze is affecting over 15 states in the U.S.

According to Reuters, over 9.4 million acres have already burned, that is about 15 times the 10-year average.

The United States has also sent hundreds of firefighters to assist Canadian authorities.

Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau said that the cause was climate change. “These fires are affecting everyday routines, lives and livelihoods, and our air quality,” Trudeau said.
