City youth Denvoy Bartley charged with New Year’s Day murder of Lionel Budna

By Aaron Humes: On Monday evening, Banak Street resident Denvoy Bartley, 22, was arraigned on a charge of murder.

Bartley is accused of shooting dead Fabers Road resident Lionel Budna, 24, early in the morning of New Year’s Day, January 1, 2023 – the first murder of the year.

Bartley appeared unrepresented before Senior Magistrate Aretha Ford where he was read the charge. As the matter is to be tried on indictment with sufficient evidence, no plea was taken and bail was denied. Bartley returns to court on August 15.

Budna was executed a few yards from his house around 12:40 a.m. when according to police, he was riding his bicycle when he was approached and shot at several times. Budna then ran towards Sun Led Service where he collapsed on the divider. The gunman managed to escape.

Police said at the weekly press briefing that Bartley was sought since that time and was finally captured without incident at a house in the City over the weekend.
