Can’t get enough of rodeo at the National Agric Show; check out upcoming rodeo shows in Orange Walk, Cayo, Toledo Districts

By Rubén Morales Iglesias: If you love the adrenaline rush rodeo shows give you, certainly the rodeo at the National Agric Show in Belmopan is not enough. That just serves to stir your appetite. Well, wait no more and check out the rodeo shows around the country.

According to National Rodeo Coordinator at the Ministry of Agriculture (MAFSE) Hugo Miranda two rodeo shows are coming up over the next two weekends, one in Orange Walk and the other in Cayo.

Miranda said the Big D Ranch in Carmelita, Orange Walk is putting on a big show starting at 10:00 am on Saturday, June 17, and at 1:00 pm on Sunday, June 18. He said the organizer goes beyond the rodeo with artists from Mexico. The show includes bull riding plus pole bending, barrel races, arena races, and breakaway roping.

Then, on Saturday and Sunday, June 24-25, the Rodeo Gregorio is putting on a bull riding show at the Carmelita Ranch in Santa Familia, Cayo District, starting at 5:00 pm both days.

Miranda said he is waiting for confirmation for rodeo shows in Spanish Lookout in Cayo and San Vicente in Toledo for later this month as well.

Then, the Benque Fiesta held in mid-July will have a grand two-day rodeo show as well. This is a first for the most traditional town fiesta in the country.

“All the rodeos happening in Belize are as a result of the direct approach of the Ministry of Agriculture to support and grow the rodeo sport, to facilitate the opportunity for youths to engage in another type of sport that requires a lot of courage and adrenaline,” Miranda said.

“What we want to do is that when every district starts to have their own rodeos, then eventually we can upgrade the one at the National Agriculture and Trade Show where we will have the champs of all the districts competing at the Agric Show, which will be the best out of the best. Then we can ask the people who support and finance rodeos to increase prizes, increase sponsorship of riders, and so on.”
