Club Atletico claim 7th consecutive Belmopan First Division Championship in 1-0 win over Napoles

By Rubén Morales Iglesias: Club Atletico captured a more than impressive seventh consecutive Belmopan First Division Championship with a 1-0 win over Napoles on Thursday night at the Isidoro Beaton Stadium in Belmopan.

James Martinez hammered in a loose ball in the box after a free kick to give Atletico the only goal of the match and the championship in the 14^th minute.

Napoles gave them a good run tying the first match 3-3 and only conceding a 1-0 score in the second leg for a final 4-3 on aggregate for Atletico who were playing their tenth consecutive final.

While the status quo remains the same, Napoles can’t and shouldn’t give up hope as it took Atletico a while before they cemented their dominance.

With the 2022-23 Closing Championship now over, both turn their attention to the National Amateur Interdistrict Championship (NAIC) which kicks off on the weekend and in which both will be competing. Napoles are hosting Corozal’s Sarteneja at 7:00 pm at the Isidoro Beaton Stadium on Saturday while Club Atletico tackle Cayo’s 7 Miles at 6:00 pm at the Isidoro Beaton Stadium on Sunday.
