16-year-old Jahfeth Stamp murdered in apparent Sunday morning shootout in Belize City

Posted: Sunday, July 2, 2023. 11:43 pm CST.

By Breaking Belize News Staff: Sixteen year old Jahfeth Stamp was shot and killed on Sunday morning in what police say appears to be a shoot-out in the old capital.

According to police, some men were cleaning a yard where a house was recently destroyed by fire when the 16-year-old, allegedly armed with a firearm, approached them. One of the men in the yard who also had a firearm, spotted Stamp entering the yard and opened fire on him first. Stamp reportedly ran toward Boots Crescent and collapsed on the street where his body was later retrieved by police.

Another man then retrieved Stamp’s weapon and went into a yard on Fabers Road, and opened fire on 43-year-old Wayne Matura. The injured Matura was transported to the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital (KHMH) where he is listed in a stable condition. That shooter then fled up Boots Crescent when he was chased by a third man whom he shot at as well, but this time he missed his target as the man took cover.

Police are investigating this latest murder and apparent shootout in Belize City.
