Accused gang member on bail claims he breached curfew for sick daughter, sent back to jail

Posted: Tuesday, July 18, 2023. 5:48 pm CST.

By Breaking Belize News Staff: Ulide Allen, 25, who was out on bail on charges of being a member of a gang and escaping police custody, was sent back to prison after breaching his curfew order though he claims the reason was to take his sick daughter to the hospital.

Allen’s curfew stipulates that he must be at home from 7:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m. but on June 6, he was detained by police at mile 4 on the George Price Highway after 9:00 p.m.

Allen appeared unrepresented before Magistrate Khiana Gordon in Court #5 on Tuesday, where he pleaded not guilty to the charge. He explained to the court that his daughter was sick and that he went to take her to the hospital as she was not breathing well.

Allen claims police had him detained at the checkpoint from around 8:00 p.m.

For the offense of neglect of judicial order, Allen was remanded to the Belize Central Prison until September 2023.
