Puerto Rico trample Panama 90-46 in FIBA U17 Boys CentroBasket Championship

By Rubén Morales Iglesias: Puerto Rico demolished Panama, defeating them by a 44-point margin, 90-46, in the FIBA U17 Boys CentroBasket Championship on Thursday night at the Belize City Civic Center.

Puerto Rico dominated the game from start to finish, securing their second win of the group stage of the regional tournament. They were simply too much for Panama to handle.

Brandon Lee led Puerto Rico with 17 points. Luis Ydiel Garcia Soto and Nicolas José Casanova Pou chipped in 12 and 10 points respectively. Felipe Quiñones was their most productive player with 10 points, eight rebounds, and nine assists.

Daniels Machore was the only Panama player to reach double digits with 10 points.

Puerto Rico shot 51% from the field, making 33 of 65 attempts, while Panama struggled with 35%, sinking 16 of 46 shots. Puerto Rico also had the edge in rebounds, 45 to 31.

Puerto Rico are tied with Belize at 2-0 but have a better point differential. Panama and Jamaica are at 0-2.

Puerto Rico will face hosts Belize on Friday night at 8:30 pm to decide the Group A winners. The defending champions are the favourites, but Belize have the home advantage.

Before that, at 6:30 pm, Panama will battle Jamaica battle for third place in the group.
