Elderly businessman in Orange Walk victim of violent home invasion

By Aaron Humes: 81-year-old Albert Charles Burns of Jalacte Street, Orange Walk Town, says he was held up at home in the early hours of Monday morning.

According to Burns, he was awakened by noise between 2:30 and 3:00 a.m. and realized that his room door had been forced open. Three men, entirely covered in dark clothing, entered and demanded he get down and give them his gun. He directed them to the other room where his 12-gauge Remington automatic shotgun was located, valued at $200.

But this was not enough for the robbers, who began demanding money and jewelry. He handed over the cash in his pockets, then the robbers bound his hands and feet and searched his home for 30 minutes before escaping in his Toyota 4-Runner valued at $20,000.

After obtaining help to free himself, Burns discovered further losses including a cell phone, flat-screen television, and electric gate motor.

Police are investigating.
