By Jose Luis Cruz: An 18-year-old motorcyclist residing in Ladyville is the victim of Tuesday night’s traffic accident on the Philip Goldson Highway.
The accident occurred around 7:30 pm just in front of the New Horizon’s Apartments located at Mile 2 on the Philip Goldson Highway. When police arrived on the scene, they observed the motionless body of the male victim lying partly on the highway and partly on top of a black Melium motorcycle. The motorcycle had extensive damages to the front portion. Police also observed that a blue dump truck was parked next to the accident scene.
The body of the motorcyclist, identified as Jorge Welderman, 18, was transported to the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital (KHMH) where he was pronounced dead on arrival.
Initial investigations reveal that the blue dump truck was traveling on the highway when it ran out of fuel. The driver then parked the truck allegedly without hazard lights on, or cones placed, as it was believed that the area was well lit. The driver of the motorcycle was heading towards Ladyville and upon reaching in front of New Horizon apartments where the truck was parked, he collided head on to the back of the truck resulting in his death.
