Road traffic accident on George Price Highway: Three vehicles involved

By Horace Palacio: Yesterday at around 5:30 p.m., a major road traffic accident occurred between miles 20 and 21 on the George Price Highway.

Upon authorities’ arrival at the site, they found a severely damaged white Isuzu Dmax on the left side of the highway, facing Belize City. Not far from it, a white GMC two-door truck was spotted on the right side. Further into the bushes to the right, a gray van showcased extensive front damage. The GMC truck and the gray van were both directed toward Belmopan, indicating their route at the time of the crash.

Preliminary reports indicate that the Dmax, driven by a Belize City resident, was en route from Belmopan to Belize City when it collided with a Ford Cargo Van. The 54-year-old driver of the van, from Big Creek Rd., Independence, found himself in the midst of the accident. The force of the collision then led the gray van to crash into the white GMC cargo truck driven by a resident of Hope Creek Village.

Emerging from the debris, the driver of the Dmax sustained injuries to the head and body and was transported to Medical Associates for urgent care. The driver of the gray van, nursing shoulder and foot injuries, was immediately rushed to Western Regional Hospital. Both were provided with medico-legal forms to document their injuries.

The driver of the GMC truck cooperated with authorities and shared his account of the incident. As investigations continue, a detailed sketch plan was developed to provide a clearer picture of the events leading up to the crash.

This accident has underscored the urgent need for reinforced road safety measures along this stretch of the highway. Commuters are urged to exercise caution and remain vigilant while driving, especially during peak traffic hours and with Independence Day celebrations taking place tonight and tomorrow.
