By Hugh O’Brien: On Independence Day, the Senior Women’s National Football team plays their first match of the 2023 Concacaf Road to the Women’s Gold Cup.
The matchup is against Aruba and the game will be played at the Football Federation of Belize’s (FFB’s) stadium in Belmopan. Game time is 4:00 pm but the gates will open from 2:00 pm and tickets are $15 each.
Stikers Khalydia Velazquez, Elva Nunez and Kenya Perez are expected to lead the team to victory while the goal will be defended either by Idania Ramirez or the more experienced Jasmin Armstrong. Wayne Casimiro will coach the team and he will be assisted by Paul Casimiro.
Last week the national women’s team played two (2) friendly matches against San Benito, Peten in Guatemala, and emerged victorious in both matches, 10-0 in the first match and 5-0 in the second match.
On September 25, 2023, the Women Jaguars will play their second match; this time against Bonaire, a small Caribbean island located near Curacao.
The FFB is encouraging Belizeans to come out on Independence day, “Wave your flags and show your support for our Senior Women’s Football Team!”
Breaking Belize News (BBN) wishes our national team a great game today.
