Belize Bird Rescue and Green parrot joins Independence Day parade

By Zoila Palma Gonzalez: On September 21, 2023, Belizeans across the country joined in celebrating Belize’s 42^nd anniversary of Independence.

In Belmopan, the Belize Bird Rescue and their green parrot joined the parade.

The organization was formed in 2006 and is a registered Non-Governmental Organization helping save and protect the wild birds of Belize and especially parrots.

Belize Bird Rescue reminds everyone that keeping a wild bird captive is illegal, and although Forest Department may issue a permit for a well-cared for parrot that has been in a family for a number of years, they do not encourage the practice as it is unfair on a wild bird to prevent them from Flying Free in our beautiful forests for all to enjoy.
