By Aaron Humes: There has been an effective lull in murders and major crimes in Belize City recently.
But authorities are not resting on their laurels and are actively maintaining a commitment to keep the peace in key communities.
On Thursday, Commissioner of Police Chester Williams, the Director of the Department of Youth Services’ Behavior Modification and Conflict Management Services (BMCMS); the chair of the Leadership Intervention Unit Dominque Noralez along with recognized youth mediators Nuri Muhammad, Raymond Gongora, Perry Smith and Government Information Management Consultant Geovanni Brackett were part of a community leaders meeting hosted at BMCMS’ office in Belize City.
Topics discussed were the expansion of the programs and employment opportunities for at-risk youths.
Thereafter, the group adjourned to Rivero Street Extension for the first “Peace on Meals” Initiative where opponents share a meal and talk out their differences.
Brackett wrote on social media: “Small steps but effective and genuine gesture! Peace on Meals hitting Rivero Street Extension.”
