Belize City man stabbed to death following domestic incident; mother and daughter detained

By Aaron Humes: A Belize City man was apparently killed Saturday evening after a fight between him and his girlfriend escalated with the use of knives.

According to police, 52-year-old Dean Halliday was visiting his girlfriend at her residence in Maxboro Community outside Sandhill, Belize District after 5 p.m. when a fight began between them.

It is alleged that Halliday caused injuries to the woman, whose daughter then came out to assist her mother. Halliday is further alleged to have pulled the older woman back inside and continued fighting with her, when the daughter took up a knife and inflicted several stab wounds on Halliday, allegedly causing his fatal injuries.

All three individuals were transported for medical treatment; however, Halliday was declared deceased shortly before 10 p.m. Meanwhile, the women were evaluated, given medico-legal forms, and then released into police custody, where they were detained.

Police investigations continue.
