People’s United Party name municipal slate for 2024 election in Belize City with Mayor Bernard Wagner running for third term

By Aaron Humes: Mayor of Belize City, Bernard Wagner, goes for a third consecutive term at the 2024 Belize City Council election after being endorsed today at the Belize Elementary School auditorium.

Current Deputy Mayor and former challenger Allan Pollard was guaranteed a spot on the slate.

Four other incumbents – Edmund Kwan, Stephanne Hamilton, Kaya Cattouse, and Javier Castellanos – were also returned by party delegates. Kwan received 391 votes; Cattouse received 360 votes; and Castellanos and Hamilton recorded 297 each.

New to the slate are Eluide Miller, who led the poll with 457 votes; Dorian Usher (289); Evan “Boo Boo” Thompson (279); Malcolm Nunez (278); and Sherwin “Shilling” Garcia (268).

Incumbent candidates missing the cut were Natasha Pipersburgh, Aisha Gentle and Ryan Elijio, while several other prominent candidates including Joseph Stamp Romero and Marvin Ottley also missed out.

Wagner’s team faces the United Democratic Party (UDP) slate led by Nelma Mortis in the March 2024 election.
