International News: UN flags lowered as organization mourn colleagues killed in Gaza

By Zoila Palma Gonzalez: Today, all flags at United Nations offices were lowered as the organization mourns colleagues killed in Gaza.

The U.N. Secretary-General Antonio Guterres also observed a minute of silence, to mourn and honour more than 100 colleagues, who have been killed in the conflict in Gaza.

“Serving the cause of peace in a violent world is a dangerous occupation.  Since the founding of the United Nations, more than 4,300 brave men and women have lost their lives in its service,” the U.N. noted.

He recently deplored the unprecedented loss of life and commended those on the front lines of the humanitarian crisis:

 “More United Nations aid workers have been killed than in any comparable period in the history of our organization. I salute all those who continue their life-saving work despite the overwhelming challenges and risks,” the U.N. Secretary General said.
